Gospel Verses

This outline was adapted and expanded. It is divided into three sections: Sin, Salvation and Service. It's a terrific way to learn the Gospel through the verses of the Bible.

For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

He who believes in me has everlasting life. (John 6:47)

As BibleCatholics, we believe God’s word (the Bible) clearly promises us (believers) that Christ alone won our salvation on the cross, securing a place for us with him in heaven forever. By Christ’s own promise, we also believe we receive his very body and blood at Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate each week. We reject Eucharistic Adoration as a man made idolatry.

It is quite easy to prove that the Roman Catholic Church is not the original Church that Christ founded, mainly because many of its most important teachings absolutely oppose or contradict the Bible, the Word of God, that was approved by the bishops or elders of the early church. See the link dogma to get specific details.

Standing on the promises of Christ!

SIN - All human beings are sinners who disobey God's law. They are born in sin, and because of their sin, they enter the world condemned to God's eternal punishment—Hell. They are totally helpless to do anything to change their situation. (As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins. Eph. 2:1. Dead is helpless.)

SALVATION - God sent his only Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life (without sin) and suffer the full punishment for sinners by dying on the cross for all who would come to believe in him as their Lord and Savior, as God in the flesh. He chose them from before the beginning of the world and he gives them the gift to believe in him—the gift of faith—and assures them through his word, the Bible, that they will live with him forever in his heavenly kingdom! (All who were destined for eternal life came to believe. Acts 13:48)

SERVICE - All who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior thank him for rescuing or “saving” them from eternal punishment and winning for them a place with him in his heavenly kingdom. They love him above all else and seek to show him their gratitude by obeying his commands and live lives of love and service to God and each other.  They put their trust fully in him and not in themselves. ("..let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16)

God created man good.

Genesis 1:27,31 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. ... And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.

But man rebelled and fell into sin.

Romans 5:12 Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned.

Psalms 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Romans 3:10 There is none righteous—no not one

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Ephesians 2:3 ...and were by nature the children of (God’s) wrath, even as others.

You are guilty of sin. You are born totally sinful and unable to do good.

1 John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Ephesians 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins…

Isaiah 64:6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.

Jeremiah 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.

Romans 8:7-8 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Nevertheless, God demands perfect obedience from you, though you are unable to be perfect...

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 13: 41-42 The Son of Man (Jesus) will send out his angels and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

(the pains of hell, much worse than spending life maimed) Matthew 18:8-9 If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

You cannot save yourself from sin and hell in any way. God chooses "elects" those he saves—he gives them the gift of faith in his only Son--Jesus.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

All who believe are forgiven and cleared of all guilt by faith in Christ. He covers us with his righteousness, his own holiness.

Philippians 3:9 …and being found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.  This then, is how you should pray: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Matthew 10:34-36 Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn "a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--a man's enemies will be the members of his own household."
