Gospel Verses

This outline was adapted and expanded. It is divided into three sections: Sin, Salvation and Service. It's a terrific way to learn the Gospel through the verses of the Bible.

For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

He who believes in me has everlasting life. (John 6:47)

As BibleCatholics, we believe God’s word (the Bible) clearly promises us (believers) that Christ alone won our salvation on the cross, securing a place for us with him in heaven forever. By Christ’s own promise, we also believe we receive his very body and blood at Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate each week. We reject Eucharistic Adoration as a man made idolatry.

It is quite easy to prove that the Roman Catholic Church is not the original Church that Christ founded, mainly because many of its most important teachings absolutely oppose or contradict the Bible, the Word of God, that was approved by the bishops or elders of the early church. See the link dogma to get specific details.

Standing on the promises of Christ!

SIN - All human beings are sinners who disobey God's law. They are born in sin, and because of their sin, they enter the world condemned to God's eternal punishment—Hell. They are totally helpless to do anything to change their situation. (As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins. Eph. 2:1. Dead is helpless.)

SALVATION - God sent his only Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life (without sin) and suffer the full punishment for sinners by dying on the cross for all who would come to believe in him as their Lord and Savior, as God in the flesh. He chose them from before the beginning of the world and he gives them the gift to believe in him—the gift of faith—and assures them through his word, the Bible, that they will live with him forever in his heavenly kingdom! (All who were destined for eternal life came to believe. Acts 13:48)

SERVICE - All who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior thank him for rescuing or “saving” them from eternal punishment and winning for them a place with him in his heavenly kingdom. They love him above all else and seek to show him their gratitude by obeying his commands and live lives of love and service to God and each other.  They put their trust fully in him and not in themselves. ("..let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16)

SIN

God created man good.

Genesis 1:27,31 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. ... And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.

But man rebelled and fell into sin.

Romans 5:12 Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned.

Psalms 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Romans 3:10 There is none righteous—no not one

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Ephesians 2:3 ...and were by nature the children of (God’s) wrath, even as others.

You are guilty of sin. You are born totally sinful and unable to do good.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way.

Psalms 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

Romans 3:23 All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

1 John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Ephesians 2:1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins…

Isaiah 64:6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.

Jeremiah 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.

Romans 8:7-8 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who can understand it?

Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander.

Romans 3:10 None is righteous, no, not one.

Nevertheless, God demands perfect obedience from you, though you are unable to be perfect...

Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 22:37-39 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

James 2:10  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Romans 14:12 So each of us shall give account of himself to God.

Galatians 3:10 Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, and do them.

Your sin condemns you, it leads to death and hell. You need a Savior (and God has provided...).

Romans 5:12 Sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death...

2  Thessalonians 1:9 They shall suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.

Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment rises forever and ever.

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 13: 41-42 The Son of Man (Jesus) will send out his angels and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

(the pains of hell, much worse than spending life maimed) Matthew 18:8-9 If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SALVATION

You cannot save yourself from sin and hell in any way. God chooses "elects" those he saves—he gives them the gift of faith in his only Son--Jesus.

John 6:28-29 Then, they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"  Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

John 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.

Ephesians 1:4-6 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the one he loves.

John 6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.

John 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou has given me; for they are thine.

Psalms 65:4 Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

God showed His love by sending His Son Jesus Christ to die for all those who come to believe in Him as Lord and Savior.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 4:9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.

Christ suffered and died in the place of all sinners who come to believe in him and the fact that he won their salvation.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Matt 20:28 The Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Romans 5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous.

John 10:18 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.

Isaiah 53:12 He bore the sins of many and made intercession for their transgressions.

John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said: “It is finished.”

Hebrews 9:28…so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people.

John 5:24 Truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life.

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Salvation is a free gift, given by the grace of God to each one whom he gives the gift of faith in his Son.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you are saved through faith and this is not from you, it is the gift of God. It is not from works, so no one may boast.

Romans 11:5-6 And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

Matthew 16:16-17 “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Blessed are you Simon, son of John, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father who is in heaven.

Romans 1:17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Galatians 3:22 But the scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

All who believe are forgiven and cleared of all guilt by faith in Christ. He covers us with his righteousness, his own holiness.

Philippians 3:9 …and being found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

Romans 4:22-25  This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him (Abraham) alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised for our justification.

Hebrews 10:14..because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Romans 4:7-8 Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.

Romans 3:21-22,24 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. ... they are justified freely by his grace, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 9:30 …the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith.

Romans 5:19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man (Adam) the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man (Jesus) the many will be made righteous.

Romans 5:17  For if, by the trespass of the one man (Adam), death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 23:6 This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteousness.

Isaiah 61:10 For he has clothed me with a robe of salvation and wrapped me in a mantle of justice.

John 10:9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.

Ephesians 2:5-6 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened (brought us to life) together with Christ (by grace ye are saved). And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

John 14:1-3 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

God calls all of us sinners to repent and believe in Christ.

Romans 10:13 Every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.

Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins my be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.

SERVICE

Our grateful response for the salvation Christ has won for us is to live lives in service to God.

Psalms 116:12,17 What shall I render to the Lord for all his bounty to me? I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, Rejoice!

We say thank you for the salvation Christ has won for us by seeking to live for him by the power of the Holy Spirit in us. Therefore, we seek to obey his commandments.

Luke 17:10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do you should say, We are but unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.

Romans 12:1-2 Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Ephesians 1:4 He chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.  (see Hebrews 10:14)

1John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.

Matthew 6:33 Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.

John 15:12 This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you.

Luke 11:28 Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!

John 14:15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

John 15:16 I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last.

Matthew 7:14 Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.

We will fail and fall into sin at times but we will always turn and repent (by the power of the Holy Spirit), even if God must correct us in order that we do so. We trust in him and what he has done for us through Christ--trusting not in ourselves.

Matthew 6:14-15 If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.

1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Matthew 6:7-13 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.  This then, is how you should pray: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

We will seek to know Jesus more through his word--the Bible.

John 8:31 If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

We will seek to join a local true church--if we can find one, or gather as a small group of believers, even within our own family, if necessary.

Matthew 18:19,20 Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

1 Peter 2:9 ...declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Some will reject our message, even as the people of Christ’s time rejected him and his apostles. Keep praying for those who reject and be friendly but do not fellowship "hangout" with them.

Matthew 10:34-36 Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn "a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law--a man's enemies will be the members of his own household."
